Awakening Arts uses creativity and story sharing as a tool for social and personal healing and empowerment. The organisation believes stories being told and heard brings people together – fostering understanding, dignity in belonging and identity, and positive and lasting change for people and communities. Awakening Arts brings together diverse groups to explore personal stories, lived experience and living histories – whilst celebrating the traditions, values, knowledge, heritage and folklore of those involved. Through that work it preserves, revives and adds to ’folk’ and ‘outsider’ art, poetry and spoken word traditions such as dialect poems/monologues and oral histories.
